Jammu and Kashmir Assembly to hold autumn session with major reform bills

Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather has called an all-party meeting for September 17, ahead of the 10-day autumn legislative session scheduled to begin on September 21. The meeting includes leaders from the BJP, National Conference, CPI(M), Congress, Peoples Conference, and PDP to discuss the upcoming session.

The session is expected to include the introduction of several key pieces of legislation. The government plans to table three major reform-oriented bills focusing on Goods and Services Tax (GST) amendments, municipal governance, and the Ease of Doing Business framework.

The proposed GST amendment aims to align the territory’s tax framework with the Central Goods and Services Tax Act to ensure uniformity, reduce litigation, and simplify compliance. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has approved the proposal for the GST legislation.
