Jammu and Kashmir Drug Awareness Campaign Reaches Over 1.2 Crore People

Government data shows that the Centre‑supported anti‑drug campaign in Jammu and Kashmir has reached more than 1.20 crore people, including 69.14 lakh youth and 51.20 lakh women, through 5,851 awareness programmes in 2024‑25. The effort involves 8,565 volunteers and a network of facilities such as one Integrated Rehabilitation Centre for Addicts, three outreach centres, two peer‑led programmes, six district de‑addiction centres and 21 treatment units in government hospitals. In the current financial year, 6,346 programmes have reached over 6.24 lakh people, 28,366 individuals have undergone treatment, and 2,500 alleged traffickers have been arrested.

On 2 August, Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University hosted a seminar as part of the nationwide “Drug‑Free Youth‑Developed India” drive. Participants pledged to stay drug‑free and watched Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address, which warned that drug addiction threatens families, society and national security. University officials highlighted the role of higher‑education institutions in character building and public awareness against drug abuse.
