Jammu and Kashmir gains 3,480 Navodaya dormitory beds and 427 PM SHRI schools

In response to a Lok Sabha question, the Ministry of Education reported that 3,480 dormitory beds were constructed in Navodaya Vidyalayas in Jammu and Kashmir between 2023‑24 and 2025‑26, with 2,112 beds in 2023‑24, 1,176 in 2024‑25 and 192 in 2025‑26. This accounts for about 14.4 % of the 24,168 beds built nationwide over the same period.

The same reply said that 427 schools in Jammu and Kashmir and 41 in Ladakh were selected under the Pradhan Mantri Schools for Rising India (PM SHRI) scheme. Teacher appointments in the J&K schools include 23 Sanskrit, 323 Urdu and 20 regional‑language teachers; Ladakh schools have one Sanskrit, 33 Urdu and 12 regional‑language teachers. Nationally, the scheme covers 13,092 schools with over 6,000 Sanskrit and nearly 2,000 Urdu teachers.
