Jammu and Kashmir issues travel advisory amid landslide risks

The Jammu and Kashmir Traffic Police has issued an advisory for commuters on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) due to inclement weather, landslides, and shooting stones. Vulnerable stretches between Jammu and Udhampur, as well as between Ramban and Banihal, are experiencing slow traffic movement caused by uneven road surfaces and single-lane sections.

Authorities have advised passengers and light motor vehicle operators to travel during the daytime and avoid night travel, particularly in areas prone to landslides. Movement of gas tankers is restricted between 7 am and 3 pm, with inflammable material transport allowed only between 5 pm and 5 am beyond Chenani.

Simultaneously, the Meteorological Centre Srinagar has warned of hot and humid weather with spells of rain and thundershowers through early September. The center cautioned that intense localized showers could trigger flash floods, mudslides, and landslides.
