Jammu and Kashmir receives industrial and skill development investments
Jammu and Kashmir is undergoing significant industrial and vocational upgrades through new government initiatives. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah announced the approval of ₹475.41 crore for upgrading Industrial Training Institute (ITI) clusters under the Pradhan Mantri Skilling and Employability Transformation through Upgraded ITIs (PM-SETU) scheme.
The investment follows a hub-and-spoke model. The Jammu ITI Cluster, receiving ₹240 crore, will be centered at ITI Jammu with satellite institutes in R. S. Pura, Nowshera, Samba, and Kathua. The Srinagar ITI Cluster will receive ₹235.41 crore, centered at ITI Srinagar with spokes in Ganderbal, Kangan, Budgam, and Charar-i-Sharief. The goal is to modernize infrastructure and align curricula with industry demands to improve youth employability.
Additionally, 671 kanals of land in the Samba district have been transferred to the Industries & Commerce Department to establish a state-of-the-art Plug and Play Industrial Park under the BHAVYA Scheme. This initiative aims to provide ready-to-use infrastructure, including electricity and water connectivity, to attract investment and support Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
