Jammu and Kashmir security forces issue high alert in multiple districts

Security forces have issued a high alert across the Kathua, Samba, Udhampur, Doda, and Kishtwar districts of Jammu and Kashmir following an ongoing counter-terrorism operation. ‘Operation Sohan’, which began on the night of September 16 in the dense forests of Bartal, Sohan, and Khubban, continues as security forces expand their search area in the Majalata forests.

During an encounter on the morning of September 17, security forces killed two terrorists associated with Jaish-e-Mohammed. Authorities suspect a third terrorist may still be hiding in the area after being wounded during the clash. The operation involves a coordinated effort by the Army’s White Knight Corps, the Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the CRPF.

The region is considered a critical area for security due to its connection to historical infiltration routes spanning from the Kathua-Samba border through Majalata and Basantgarh to Doda, Bhadrwah, and Kishtwar, potentially leading toward South Kashmir. To manage the threat, additional joint checkpoints have been established, and forces are utilizing sniffer dogs, drones, and helicopters equipped with thermal surveillance.

Forensic teams are currently examining mobile phones and other items recovered from the deceased terrorists to identify local support networks. Additionally, an ‘over-ground worker’ has been detained for questioning regarding allegations of providing logistical support and shelter to the group.
