Jammu and Kashmir weather warning triggers traffic advisories

The Meteorological Centre Srinagar has issued a warning for Jammu and Kashmir, predicting light to moderate rain and thundershowers between August 16 and 19. The India Meteorological Department cautioned that brief, intense heavy showers in certain districts could trigger flash floods, landslides, mudslides, and waterlogging in low-lying areas.

In response to weather conditions and road damage, traffic on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway is being regulated. Commuters face single-lane stretches at Dalwas in Udhampur and between Marog and Kishtwar Pathar due to uneven surfaces and vehicle breakdowns. Authorities have advised against night travel between Ramban and Banihal due to the risk of landslides and shooting stones. Travelers are encouraged to confirm road status with Traffic Control Units before proceeding, especially given the forecast for heavy rainfall in the Jammu region.
