Jammu & Kashmir deploys officers and rescue teams for 2026 Amarnath Yatra

The Jammu and Kashmir government issued an order to temporarily deputise 63 officers from a range of administrative and departmental services as Camp Directors and Additional Camp Directors for the 2026 Shri Amarnath Yatra. The officers will report to the Chief Executive Officer of the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board, retain their regular salaries and return to their original posts after the pilgrimage season ends.

On the day the pilgrimage begins, Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat flagged off 30 specialised Mountain Rescue Teams (MRTs) that will be stationed along the twin Baltal and Pahalgam routes. The MRTs are equipped to provide first‑aid, medical assistance and emergency response for altitude‑related illnesses, landslides, flash floods and other hazards, and will operate in coordination with the SDRF, Army, police and civil administration. Officials note that similar teams assisted nearly 1,000 pilgrims during the previous year’s Yatra, and the enhanced deployment aims to ensure a safe and smooth pilgrimage for the expected record number of devotees.
