Jammu and Kashmir Launches First International Film Festival, CM Omar Abdullah Unveils Logo

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah inaugurated the logo of the inaugural International Film Festival of Jammu and Kashmir (IFFJK) on July 24 at the Royal Springs Golf Course in Srinagar. The unveiling marks the start of preparations for the festival, scheduled for September 7‑10, 2026, with the main venue at the Sher‑i‑Kashmir International Conference Centre and additional open‑air screenings across the region.

Organised by the Jammu and Kashmir Directorate of Information and Public Relations in partnership with the National Film Development Corporation, IFFJK aims to revive the valley’s historic link to cinema, attract filmmakers from India and abroad, and boost tourism and employment for local youth. The event will feature international competitions, Indian cinema sections, documentaries, short films, animation and regional productions, alongside industry forums, technical workshops and cultural programs.

Officials said the festival seeks to position Jammu and Kashmir as a preferred destination for film production by simplifying permissions, reducing costs and developing a skilled local workforce, thereby strengthening the creative economy and showcasing the region’s cultural heritage to global audiences.
