Jammu and Kashmir International Film Festival 2026

Overview

In late July 2026 the Jammu and Kashmir government began gearing up for its first International Film Festival. On 24 July Chief Minister Omar Abdullah unveiled the festival logo at the Royal Springs Golf Course in Srinagar, marking the start of preparations for a September 7‑10 event centred on the Sher‑i‑Kashmir International Conference Centre with additional open‑air screenings across the valley. The festival is organised by the Directorate of Information and Public Relations in partnership with the National Film Development Corporation and is intended to revive the region’s historic links to cinema, attract domestic and foreign filmmakers, and boost tourism and employment for local youth.

By 29 July the festival had already received 875 film submissions from roughly 50 countries, with the entry window closing on 30 July. The programme will feature screenings, master‑classes, panel discussions and other interactive sessions designed to showcase the valley’s heritage to a global audience, underscoring growing confidence in Jammu and Kashmir as a hub for film production and cultural exchange.

On 6 August the Union Government announced the India Cine Hub, a single‑window digital portal managed by the NFDC that streamlines shooting permissions and promotes Jammu and Kashmir as a global filming destination. The same day the Department of Information and Public Relations launched the IFFJK Emerging Filmmakers Competition 2026, inviting residents aged 18‑39 to submit short films (up to five minutes) on the theme “Rang‑e‑Cinema: Frames of a New Jammu & Kashmir.” Submissions close on 26 August via the festival website.
