Jammu & Kashmir police boost security for Amarnath Yatra 2026
The Jammu & Kashmir police have finalized extensive security measures for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra, which begins on 3 July 2026 and runs for 57 days. Senior officials, including Special DGP S.J.M. Gilani, inspected the Bhagwati Nagar base camp and the Tawi River front, reviewing the multi‑layered security grid, troop deployments, traffic management and coordination among police, central paramilitary forces and other agencies.
In parallel, mountain rescue teams carried out a large‑scale mock drill at 18 sites along the pilgrimage routes, including Pilgram, Baltal, the holy cave and other vulnerable points. The exercise tested responses to possible terrorist attacks, natural disasters, medical emergencies and landslides, focusing on rescue operations, communications and inter‑agency coordination. Officials said the drills demonstrated satisfactory performance and aim to ensure a safe, orderly pilgrimage for thousands of devotees.
