Jammu & Kashmir police’s Counter‑Intelligence unit raids multiple districts over online terrorism glorification

On 8 August 2026 the Counter‑Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) wing of the Jammu & Kashmir Police carried out simultaneous raids in several districts of the Valley, including Anantnag, Shopian, Baramulla, Kupwara and Bandipora. The operations were linked to FIR No. 03/2023 registered at the CIK police station in Srinagar and were pursued under Indian Penal Code sections 153‑A and 505 and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act sections 13 and 18.

Investigators seized digital devices and communication equipment as evidence of alleged online glorification of terrorism and attempts to recruit individuals into terrorist organisations. In Anantnag, a team led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Farooq Ahmad recovered two digital devices from a residence in the Hiller Shahabad area. The raids were conducted under court warrants and form part of heightened security measures across the Jammu‑Srinagar National Highway (NH‑44).
