Jammu & Kashmir ramps up security for Kheer Bhawani Yatra
Ganderbal police have intensified security measures ahead of the annual Mela Kheer Bhawani and the upcoming Amarnath Yatra 2026. Area domination exercises were carried out around the Kheer Bhawani Temple at Tulmulla, highway checking and vehicle inspections were strengthened on the Ganderbal‑Baltal axis, and Advance Security Tasking exercises were conducted at strategic points to improve coordination among agencies.
Along the Srinagar‑Jammu National Highway, authorities deployed Central Armed Police Forces at key locations, including the Chenani‑Nashri and Banihal‑Qazigund tunnels, and enhanced checkpoints and surveillance. Additional arrangements for healthcare, lodging and crowd management were made. A convoy of more than 200 buses carrying roughly 9,000 pilgrims, mostly Kashmiri Pandits, was flagged off from Nagrota and escorted under tight security, successfully crossing the tunnels and reaching the shrine.
