Jammu tightens security for Amarnath pilgrimage with arrests and anti‑terror drills

In the run‑up to the annual Amarnath Yatra beginning 3 July 2026, Jammu railway police heightened security at key stations, detaining 24 persons they described as suspicious over three days. The arrests were made at Kathua, Jammu and other sensitive locations, and preventive complaints were filed against the detainees.

Alongside the railway checks, Jammu‑Kashmir police’s Special Operations Group and the National Security Guard carried out a joint anti‑terrorism mock drill at the Raghunath Temple. The exercise simulated rapid response to a high‑risk terrorist scenario, including area control, hostage rescue and casualty evacuation, aiming to test standard operating procedures and improve inter‑agency coordination ahead of the pilgrimage.

Both measures form part of a broader security effort to ensure the safety of pilgrims, local residents and visitors during the sacred journey.
