Jammu‑Srinagar Highway Remains Closed Amid Landslides, Special Train Runs

Heavy rain triggered landslides and rockfalls along NH‑44, the Jammu‑Srinagar national highway, forcing authorities to keep the road closed for a second consecutive day. Debris blocked the route, creating waterlogging and landslip hazards, and officials said work to clear the highway continues despite ongoing bad weather.

To assist stranded travelers, Northern Railway ran a special service between Srinagar and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra, using an eight‑coach MEMU train that departed in the evening and arrived early the next morning. The train also helped pilgrims whose major religious journeys, including the Amarnath Yatra and Vaishno Devi pilgrimage, were postponed for a sixth day, with free meals and shelter provided at base camps.
