Jammu‑Srinagar Highway traffic advisory issued amid rain‑triggered landslides

The Jammu‑Srinagar National Highway (NH‑44) in Jammu and Kashmir has been placed under a traffic advisory after the India Meteorological Department forecast light to moderate rainfall that could cause landslides, mudslides, shooting stones and flash floods. The Traffic Police Headquarters warned commuters to avoid non‑essential travel, to use alternate routes such as the old road via Jawahar Tunnel for the Nashri‑Banihal stretch and the Patnitop route for destinations like Batote, Doda and Kishtwar, and to observe lane discipline.

Movement on NH‑44 is permitted only during specific daytime windows: private cars and light motor vehicles may travel from Nagrota (Jammu) between 07:00‑12:00, from Jakheni (Udhampur) between 08:00‑13:00, and from Qazigund towards Jammu between 11:30‑17:30. Heavy motor vehicles are allowed on alternate days and only after the Shri Amarnath Yatra convoys have passed, with additional restrictions on perishable‑goods transport. Vehicles such as empty LPG tankers and Food Corporation of India trucks are directed to use the Mughal Road. The advisory follows a 12‑hour closure of the highway caused by landslides at Gangroo in Banihal and vehicle breakdowns at Panthyal and Nachlana, and it urges army and security forces to schedule movements after the convoy windows.
