Jamshedpur FC Indian Super League Tata Steel withdrawal grassroots development

Jamshedpur Football Club, owned by Tata Steel through Jamshedpur Football and Sporting Private Limited, announced on July 31, 2026 that it will not take part in the Indian Super League (ISL) from the 2026-27 season onward. The club failed to pay the required Rs 55 lakh participation fee for the new club‑led model, prompting the AIFF to issue a notice.

In its statement, Jamshedpur FC said it will remain committed to grassroots football development across India, continuing work with the Tata Football Academy and other youth pathways. The club is currently competing in the Durand Cup, having opened its campaign with a 5‑0 win over Defenders FC, though its future participation in that tournament remains uncertain.

The withdrawal was disclosed to senior players only an hour before the public announcement, surprising many contracted players and staff. Jamshedpur FC’s most notable achievement was winning the ISL League Winners’ Shield in the 2021‑22 season under coach Owen Coyle. The club thanked its fans, players, and the All India Football Federation for a decade of support.
