Jan Holoubek series Wśród nocnej ciszy dramatizes Połaniec crime

Director Jan Holoubek is releasing a new series titled ‘Wśród nocnej ciszy’ on HBO Max, inspired by the real-life ‘Połaniec crime’ of 1976. The production is based on Wiesław Łuka’s reportage ‘Nie oświadczam się’.

The series depicts a tragic Christmas Eve incident in the village of Zrębin, where a pregnant woman, her husband, and her 12-year-old brother were killed. While authorities at the time labeled the event an accident, the story follows a mother and a young policeman who refuse to accept this version and seek the truth behind a local conspiracy of silence.

The historical event stemmed from a long-standing conflict between the Kalita and Sojda families. The series features Jędrzej Hycnar in a lead role as an investigator modeled after the real officer who handled the case.
