Janet Tello rejects Keiko Fujimori’s UN statements on judicial processes

Janet Tello, President of the Peruvian Judiciary, has formally rejected statements made by President Keiko Fujimori during her address to the United Nations General Assembly. Fujimori claimed that military and police personnel involved in the country’s fight against terrorism continue to face judicial processes despite alleged violations of due process.

Tello argued that these remarks undermine the international image of Peru’s justice system and contradict Fujimori’s previous commitments to respect the separation of powers and judicial independence. Tello has called for the President to retract her statements, asserting that judicial decisions are the exclusive domain of judges acting within the law.

Prime Minister Luis Galarreta defended the President, stating that her comments did not constitute an attack on judicial autonomy but were rather an expression of opinion within a democracy. He suggested that the tension might stem from a misinterpretation of the President's words.
