Janez Janša pledges action to mitigate Slovenia's energy costs
Slovenian Prime Minister Janez Janša addressed the National Assembly regarding rising energy costs, stating that the government will do everything within its power to mitigate the consequences of high energy prices. Janša noted that while Slovenia cannot influence the global energy market as it does not produce oil, the government is utilizing available instruments to assist citizens, though these are partially limited by European Union market rules.
During a parliamentary session, Janša responded to questions from Asta Vrečko, leader of the Levica parliamentary group, who criticized the coalition's inability to act on fuel prices despite previous campaign promises. Janša accused the opposition of blocking an intervention law intended to improve living conditions and support development.
The Prime Minister expressed regret over the European Union's dependence on external energy sources and warned that a challenging winter lies ahead. He attributed some of the price increases to speculation by oil companies and noted that high energy costs are currently limiting national economic growth.
