Cockroach Janta Party leaders detained at Jantar Mantar protest

Leaders of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), including Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, have been remanded to five days of judicial custody at Tihar Jail. The detention follows a protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, a site that Delhi Police recently removed from the list of designated protest venues.

According to authorities, the activists entered the area by climbing over barricades and trespassing on private premises. They were reportedly waving the Indian national flag and chanting slogans demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The CJP alleges the resignation is necessary due to irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

Delhi Police have registered multiple FIRs against the group, citing charges such as trespassing, violating prohibitory orders, and obstructing public servants. While the police characterized the action as a preventive arrest, CJP legal representatives have accused the force of illegal detention and denying access to legal counsel. A third leader, Ajinkya Shinde, was released after signing a personal bond.
