Japan Airlines orders 26 Embraer E190-E2 aircraft
Japan Airlines (JAL) has ordered 26 Embraer E190-E2 aircraft, consisting of 16 firm orders and 10 options. Deliveries are expected to begin in the 2029 financial year.
The new aircraft will replace the existing Embraer E170 and E190 regional fleet operated by JAL subsidiary J-AIR, which utilizes Osaka International Airport (Itami) as its main hub. The fleet renewal is part of the ‘JAL Group Management Vision 2035’ strategy to maintain a sustainable domestic network despite challenges such as declining business demand, demographic shifts, and rising operating costs due to inflation and currency fluctuations.
The Embraer E190-E2 features advanced engines and wing designs intended to improve fuel efficiency, reduce CO2 emissions, and lower noise levels. JAL expects these improvements to enhance operational efficiency and reduce maintenance costs while supporting regional connectivity across Japan.
