Japan Airlines Embraer fleet partnership

Overview

Embraer and Japan Airlines (JAL) initially strengthened their partnership through a multi-year maintenance agreement under the Embraer Pool Program. This contract was designed to support JAL subsidiary J-Air by providing maintenance, repair, and spare parts for its fleet of 32 E170 and E190 aircraft.

Following this agreement, JAL expanded its relationship with the Brazilian manufacturer by ordering 26 Embraer E190-E2 aircraft, comprising 16 firm orders and 10 options. This fleet renewal, which is expected to begin deliveries in the 2029 financial year, aims to replace the existing E170 and E190 fleet. The transition to the E190-E2 is intended to support the ‘JAL Group Management Vision 2035’ by improving fuel efficiency, reducing CO2 emissions, and lowering noise levels to maintain a sustainable domestic network.
