Japan Design launches frailty and dementia prevention project

Japan Design has announced the launch of the ‘Frailty and Dementia Prevention Calling Project,’ a public-private partnership aimed at promoting health awareness and social participation through community-based interaction. To mark the project's start, a symposium and official launch ceremony will be held on October 22, 2026, at the House of Representatives First Members' Office Building in Tokyo.

The initiative responds to projections from the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, which estimate that by 2040, approximately one in 3.3 people aged 65 and older will live with dementia or mild cognitive impairment (MCI). The project seeks to build support systems involving local governments, corporations, medical professionals, and private organizations to encourage early prevention and community support.

The event will feature speakers including Olympic gold medalist Kyoko Iwasaki. The project also intends to recruit supporting members, offering tools for awareness and utilizing AI technology, AICOG, to analyze health checkup data for collaborative health management.
