Japan expands economic cooperation with Latin America and the Caribbean

The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) are expanding cooperation to increase Japanese investment, technology, and expertise in Latin America and the Caribbean. IDB President Ilan Goldfajn noted that the partnership provides capital and technical experience in areas such as disaster resilience, while offering Japan security and supply chain diversification in energy, food, and critical minerals.

In a related effort to strengthen economic ties, Colombia is pursuing an agenda in Tokyo to attract Japanese investment and technology. Colombian Minister of Commerce, Industry, and Tourism Mauricio Gómez Amín is working to open new markets for national exporters and revitalize the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) between Colombia and Japan. The Colombian mission includes discussions on productivity and innovation with IDB officials and meetings with global corporations like Marubeni Corporation to foster growth and job creation.
