Japan experiences two minor earthquakes in Miyazaki and Iwate prefectures

A magnitude 2.8 earthquake struck the northern plains of Miyazaki Prefecture at a depth of 10 km, producing a maximum observed intensity of 1 on the Japanese scale. No tsunami was expected.

Later the same day, a magnitude 4.5 quake centered off the east coast of Aomori Prefecture was recorded at a depth of 40 km. The tremor reached a maximum intensity of 2 in parts of Hokkaido, Aomori and Iwate prefectures, with no tsunami threat reported.
