Thessaloniki International Exhibition opens with Japan as guest of honor
The 90th International Thessaloniki Exhibition (TIE) has opened with Japan as the guest of honor. The event marks the centenary of the exhibition and features over 1,000 exhibitors and 25 participating countries. The Japanese pavilion highlights the 'Takumi' philosophy, showcasing advancements in automotive, pharmaceutical, energy, and digital sectors.
During the event, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced several economic measures aimed at boosting investment and supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Key announcements include a €5 billion support package for SMEs, a reduction in the depreciation period for business equipment from 10 to 6 years, and the gradual abolition of the professional tax for businesses located outside Attica starting in 2027. Mitsotakis also emphasized fiscal stability, targeting a reduction in public debt below 110% of GDP by 2030.
Politically, the Prime Minister confirmed that elections are scheduled for the spring of 2027, expressing confidence in achieving a parliamentary majority. He also addressed regional economic disparities, noting European Commission concerns regarding growth imbalances in Northern Greece. Additionally, discussions at the forum highlighted increasing Japanese interest in Greek economic diplomacy and infrastructure, particularly regarding regional airport concessions.
