Japan participation in Thessaloniki International Fair
Overview
Japan has been named the honored country for the 90th Thessaloniki International Fair, scheduled for September 5–13, 2026. This edition coincides with the centenary of the fair’s first organization and is expected to host over 1,000 exhibitors and 200,000 visitors.
The Japanese presence, branded ‘Team Japan,’ will occupy a 3,200-square-meter pavilion centered on the ‘Takumi’ philosophy of meticulous craftsmanship. The exhibition will feature a mix of cutting-edge technology, holographic displays, and new car models alongside cultural demonstrations such as calligraphy, martial arts, kimono presentations, and anime exhibits.
As the event approaches, organizers are highlighting the fair’s historical significance. Founded in 1926 following an idea by scientist and politician Nikolaos Germanos, the inaugural exhibition opened on October 3, 1926, at Areos Field. Despite facing wartime disruptions and pandemic-related restrictions, the fair has evolved from a local event into an international institution.
In preparation for the event, the Greek government is monitoring various domestic issues, including wildfire management and the cost of living, as the fair traditionally provides a platform for the Prime Minister to announce new support measures.
