Japan hosts summer insect and carnivorous‑plant exhibitions

From July 17 to August 2, Aeon Mall Tsu‑nan in Mie Prefecture is running the “Waku‑Waku Insect Kingdom” exhibition. About 20 species of beetles, rhinoceros‑beetles and stag‑beetles from around the world are on display, along with a workshop to create original insects, games and a shop selling insect‑related items. Admission is ¥800 for adults and ¥500 for children; children under three enter free.

Meanwhile, the Jindai Botanical Garden in Tokyo opened a free carnivorous‑plant exhibition from July 28 to August 9. The show features sundews, pitcher plants and other insect‑eating species collected worldwide, with observation stations that explain how the plants trap prey. Separate plant‑sale days are scheduled throughout the exhibition, and a photo‑spot with a face‑in‑the‑panel backdrop is provided for families.

Both events are geared toward families during the summer holidays, offering educational entertainment and a chance to see rare species up close.
