Japan initiatives support women in agriculture through fashion and networking

Efforts to support and empower women in the agricultural and livestock industries are gaining momentum in Japan through fashion and professional networking events.

In Niigata City, JA Niigata City hosted a fashion show featuring functional yet stylish agricultural workwear. The event aimed to promote the appeal of farming and support female workers, aligning with the United Nations’ International Year of Women in Agriculture. Participants noted that colorful, lightweight, and water-repellent clothing can make daily labor more enjoyable and help shift the image of farming work from dull to fashionable.

Looking ahead, the ‘Women in Agriculture and Livestock Future Festival 2026’ is scheduled for November 26, 2026, at the Dawn Center in Osaka. Supported by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, the festival aims to provide a space for women in the sector to connect, share skills, and discuss career challenges. The program includes case studies from female farmers, skill-sharing workshops, and a platform to discuss common difficulties, fostering a support network for women who often work in isolation.
