Chigasaki fireworks revival draws 55,000 spectators
On 1 August 2026, Kirin Beer Co. staged the "晴れ風ACTION 未来につなぐ希望の花火2026" at Chigasaki City’s Southern Beach, reviving fireworks that had been cancelled at four other Japanese festivals. The event featured the combined fireworks of the Sukagawa‑Shakado River, Rōjin‑Onsen, Banshu‑Narita‑san summer festival and Fukushima‑Port displays.
Approximately 55 000 people gathered to watch the show, which was also streamed live via drones. The broadcast incorporated a donation mechanism that allocated funds to nationwide fireworks‑preservation activities based on view counts. Since the initiative began in 2024, cumulative contributions have exceeded ¥2.5 billion. A drone‑light display spelled out "We want to protect fireworks," prompting applause from the crowd.
The "晴れ風ACTION" project, funded in part by sales of Kirin’s "Harukaze" beer, aims to safeguard and continue Japan’s summer fireworks tradition.
