Japan mobile service costs: Major carriers average 8,802 yen monthly

A survey by MMD Laboratory regarding mobile communication services in Japan reveals that the average monthly cost for users of the four major carriers—including communication, voice, and device installments—is 8,802 yen. In comparison, users of online-only plans pay an average of 6,651 yen, sub-brand users average 5,411 yen, and MVNO users average 4,330 yen.

Regarding data usage, the majority of major carrier users opt for large capacities (31GB to unlimited), while MVNO users predominantly utilize small capacities (7GB or less). The study, which surveyed 40,000 individuals aged 18 to 79, indicates a slight upward trend in monthly expenditures compared to previous records.
