Japan PM Takaichi to attend G7 Energy Summit in France

Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi will lead a six‑day European tour, visiting the United Kingdom and Italy before heading to Evian‑les‑Bains, France, for the three‑day G7 Energy Summit. The Japanese government says the trip aims to strengthen cooperation on economic and energy security, particularly in response to the Middle‑East conflict that has shut the Strait of Hormuz and disrupted global oil and LNG supplies.

During bilateral meetings with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Takaichi is expected to discuss collaboration on critical mineral supply chains, cutting‑edge technologies, national security and science. The summit will also address Russia’s war in Ukraine and rising Indo‑Pacific tensions, with Japan seeking to shape G7 discussions on stabilising crude‑oil markets and broader geopolitical challenges.
