Japan police arrest driver and student for drunk driving

Two separate incidents of driving under the influence have been reported in Japan.

In Tagawa City, Fukuoka Prefecture, a 49-year-old care worker was arrested in flagrante delicto for driving while intoxicated. Police stopped the vehicle after noticing the driver avoiding eye contact with a patrol car. Breathalyzer tests revealed an alcohol concentration of 0.88 mg/L, exceeding the legal limit. The suspect admitted to consuming three 500ml beers and stated he was driving to pick up his girlfriend. Police are also investigating the female passenger for potential involvement in aiding drunk driving.

In Ebetsu, Hokkaido, a 17-year-old high school student was arrested for driving a motorized bicycle while intoxicated. The student collided with a passenger car at an intersection, prompting a report from a witness. Upon arrival, officers detected the smell of alcohol and confirmed levels above the legal limit. No injuries were reported in the collision. Authorities are currently investigating the student's driving license status and the circumstances surrounding the alcohol consumption.
