Japan police arrest suspects in multiple hit-and-run incidents

Police in Japan have arrested several individuals in connection with separate hit-and-run incidents involving vehicles and pedestrians or trams.

In Kagoshima, 55-year-old Hiromi Ichikawa, a self-proclaimed substitute driver, was arrested after fleeing the scene of a collision between a light vehicle and a streetcar. Ichikawa reportedly admitted to fleeing because he had been drinking until morning and feared alcohol might be detected. The vehicle involved was reportedly borrowed from another owner.

In Shiga Prefecture, a 58-year-old temporary employee was arrested in Nagahama for allegedly striking a 61-year-old man on a crosswalk while making a right turn and fleeing. The suspect has denied the allegations, claiming he did not hit the pedestrian.

In Kyoto Prefecture, a 67-year-old woman from Osaka was arrested for a hit-and-run in Seika Town. She is accused of colliding with a 78-year-old female cyclist in July, causing a broken arm, and failing to stop at the scene.
