Japan regional initiatives host lectures on dementia care and coexistence

Various regional initiatives in Japan are focusing on dementia education and community support.

In Akita, the Open University of Japan Akita Learning Center will host a commemorative lecture on September 26, 2026, to mark its 30th anniversary. The session, titled “Dementia: Prevention, Coexistence, Rehabilitation, and Care,” will be led by Associate Professor Asaaki Asano of the Akita University Graduate School of Medicine. The lecture aims to provide knowledge on living with dementia in familiar communities through discussions on prevention and daily care.

In Fukuchiyama, Kyoto Prefecture, the “Association to Walk with People with Dementia,” a group composed of patients' families and supporters, is holding its first citizen lecture titled “Learning New Perspectives on Dementia.” The program features personal accounts and experiences shared by patients and their families to foster a deeper understanding of the condition.
