Japan regions enter early influenza epidemic season

Multiple regions in Japan have officially entered the influenza epidemic season earlier than usual.

In Iwate Prefecture, authorities announced the start of the epidemic season after new cases doubled in a single week. This marks the second earliest onset since current tracking began in 1999, arriving six weeks ahead of 2025. Specific areas, including Chubu and Ninohe, have already exceeded advisory thresholds.

Similarly, Kyoto Prefecture has declared the start of the influenza epidemic period, noting that the onset is one week earlier than last year. Some schools in the region have already implemented class closures due to the spread. Health officials in both prefectures are urging the public to practice preventative measures, such as frequent handwashing and wearing masks.
