Japan reports two serious traffic accidents, one with multiple injuries and another fatal plunge
A head‑on collision on a prefectural road in Nagano's Ogawa village injured four tourists, including a 57‑year‑old Japanese woman who broke a spinal bone and a 34‑year‑old British lawyer who suffered broken ribs. The driver, a 34‑year‑old Chinese man who was on a rental car, was arrested on suspicion of negligent driving causing injury.
In a separate incident in Toyama Prefecture, a small car rolled into the sea at the Keida fishing port in the city of Uozu, killing the 53‑year‑old driver who lived in nearby Sakai. Authorities are investigating whether the driver mistakenly pressed the accelerator instead of the brake. The vehicle remains submerged about 25 m from the shore.
