Japan schedules multiple cultural festivals for August 2026

Two major cultural events are set for August 2026 in Japan. The city of Yanagawa in Fukuoka Prefecture will host the lantern‑art festival “Kikai Yako 2026 ‘Manpuku’ CRAFCULT Exhibition” from August 13‑16 and August 21‑22 at the historic Takahashi‑tei Ōka venue, featuring Edo‑period yokai scrolls, lantern installations, and related night‑time boat tours.

Meanwhile, Otaru will hold the final edition of the Noudou Art Festival (vol. 3) from August 14‑16 at the city’s municipal art museum, presenting modern visual art, performance, experimental music and collaborative dance and sound installations, with free admission for all visitors.
