Japan schools implement inquiry-based learning programs

Educational institutions in Japan are implementing inquiry-based learning models to help students develop critical thinking and research skills.

At Seto SOLAN Gakuen, students in the 7th and 8th grades are engaging in individual research projects. Despite high temperatures, students are utilizing various environments, including the learning commons and gymnasiums, to collect data and verify hypotheses through physical activity and digital research.

Clark Memorial International School's Yokohama campus utilizes a program called ‘Q-Tan’ (Question Inquiry). This initiative allows students to progress through different stages of research, from identifying initial interests in topics like science, technology, or social issues to conducting self-driven investigations. The program includes coaching from university professors and students to help refine research questions and presentation skills, ultimately assisting students in preparing for university admissions and future career paths.
