Japanese bakeries roll out new sweet treats in Yokohama and Tokyo
A new melon‑bread variety made with millet sugar was introduced at the Purimie Saint‑Germain Upper‑Ōoka shop in Yokohama on July 19, priced at ¥270. The product combines a crisp cookie‑style outer layer with a soft, steam‑dough interior, and is part of a range of fresh items that also include peach‑cream and almond‑topped breads.
Separately, Disney and the Tokyo‑Banana brand launched a limited‑edition Winnie‑the‑Pooh honey‑cake collection to mark the character’s 100‑year anniversary. The honey‑flavoured cake, sold from July 21 through mid‑December, is available in 4‑ and 8‑piece boxes and is priced between ¥880 and ¥1,780. A pop‑up shop opened at Gransta Tokyo’s Square Zero from August 3 to August 23, offering the cakes, themed bags, pouches and other merchandise, with promotional stickers for purchases over ¥2,000.
