Japan vegetable prices rise following heavy rainfall
Leafy vegetable prices in Japan have surged at supermarkets following prolonged nationwide rainfall. In regions such as Shizuoka, prices for items like mizuna, lettuce, and cabbage have risen significantly since mid-September due to underdeveloped crops and difficulties in securing supply.
Meteorological data indicates that late September saw frequent rainfall driven by an autumn rain front, with some areas receiving approximately twice the normal amount of precipitation. While leafy greens have become more expensive, root vegetables such as carrots, onions, and potatoes remain stable due to strong harvests.
