Japan weather: Heavy rain alerts issued for Yuzawa and Kyoto

Severe weather warnings have been issued across multiple regions in Japan due to intense rainfall. In Yuzawa City, Akita Prefecture, the Japan Meteorological Agency issued a record-breaking heavy rain information alert after approximately 100 millimeters of torrential rain fell within a single hour.

Authorities have warned of an increased risk of landslides, flooding, and the overflowing of small rivers. Simultaneously, the Kyoto Meteorological Observatory issued an early warning for Kyoto Prefecture, noting that atmospheric instability could lead to warning-level heavy rain and localized intense thunderstorms throughout the afternoon and evening.
