Japanese automakers unveil Nissan Note redesign and industry‑wide parts standardization
Nissan is reportedly preparing a major redesign of its compact Note model, with a possible launch around 2027. The next‑generation vehicle may feature a small‑capacity plug‑in hybrid system, a third‑generation e‑POWER drivetrain, advanced lighting, and an evolved 4WD system. Designers also anticipate a potential three‑row MPV variant to broaden the model’s appeal.
At the same time, Japan’s seven largest car manufacturers—Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Mazda, Subaru, Mitsubishi and Suzuki—have agreed, through the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA), to standardize basic components such as wiring harnesses, connectors, fasteners and material specifications. The move aims to cut duplicated development costs, free engineering resources for software‑defined vehicle technologies, and improve competitiveness against rapidly advancing Chinese rivals like BYD. The standardization will reshape supply‑chain relationships, pushing parts suppliers toward commodity‑type production and prompting industry‑wide cost efficiencies.
