Nissan Note updates and parts standardization
Overview
In July 2026, Nissan announced a limited-edition Black version of its Note compact car for later that year. By early August, the automaker signaled a broader redesign slated for around 2027, featuring a small-capacity plug-in hybrid system, third-generation e-POWER drivetrain, advanced lighting, an updated four-wheel-drive system, and a possible three-row MPV variant.
On 24 August 2026, Nissan introduced a minor facelift of the current E13 generation, branding it the Note Black Edition. This update includes black-styled exterior trim, “Midnight Black” paint, synthetic interior materials, and advanced safety features such as Intelligent Around-View Monitor and BSW rear-side detection. Prices rise roughly ¥70,400 for the standard trim and about ¥100,000 for the Black Edition. This facelift serves as a bridge to the full model change expected after 2027, aimed at cost efficiency amid rising material costs.
The August update also features a significant overhaul of the e-POWER system, transitioning from a single-motor to a dual-motor configuration. This change is expected to improve acceleration by approximately 10% to 40% and fuel efficiency by 6% to 30% under WLTC modes. The Note Aura variant will utilize a higher-output motor providing 136ps. Safety enhancements include ProPILOT technology and reinforced vehicle structure using high-tensile steel.
Concurrently, Japan’s seven largest automakers—Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Mazda, Subaru, Mitsubishi, and Suzuki—agreed through the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association to standardize basic components such as wiring harnesses, connectors, fasteners, and material specifications. The move seeks to cut duplicated development costs and improve competitiveness against Chinese rivals.
