Japanese-backed road and development projects advance in Yemen's Aden

The governor of Aden, Abdulrahman Sheikh, met with Japanese Ambassador Yoichiro Nakashima and his delegation to discuss expanding sustainable development cooperation in the Yemeni capital. The talks highlighted priorities such as public health, urban planning, sanitation and infrastructure, with the ambassador reaffirming Japan’s commitment to support Yemen’s recovery.

Later, Public Works Minister Hussein Al‑Aqraabi inspected the newly completed rehabilitation of the 2.24‑km Khumsayn Street in the Mansoura district, a project funded by the Japanese government through the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS). The upgrade includes resurfaced asphalt, improved drainage, new lighting poles, pedestrian safety measures and landscaping. Both officials praised the quality of the works, noting that the road will ease traffic congestion, support economic activity and improve daily life for residents. The Japanese side reiterated its intention to continue backing similar infrastructure and service projects in Aden.
