Japanese EV market sees new Volvo and Mitsubishi model updates
Volvo has expanded its EX30 lineup in Japan with the introduction of the EX30 Cross Country RWD model, specifically the ‘Ultra P5 Long Range Electric’. This new rear-wheel-drive variant is priced 500,000 yen lower than the AWD P8 version, targeting consumers who desire the rugged Cross Country styling without the need for all-wheel drive. The model features a single motor producing 272ps and a range of 560km.
Meanwhile, Mitsubishi has implemented a partial update to its eK Cross EV, a pioneer in the Japanese kei-car electric vehicle segment. The update focuses on a design overhaul, shifting the vehicle's aesthetic from a rugged SUV look to a more urban, sophisticated style by replacing the large X-shaped grille with a slim LED-illuminated design. Interior improvements include the addition of a 1500W accessory outlet and enhanced safety features like a rear seat alert, though the powertrain remains unchanged with a 20kWh battery and a range of 180km.
