Japanese hospitality providers launch sweet potato harvesting plans

Various Japanese hospitality providers are launching seasonal autumn travel plans centered on sweet potato harvesting and culinary experiences.

Kawagoe Prince Hotel has announced an immersive accommodation plan running from October 1 to November 30, 2026. In collaboration with Oki Farm, guests can participate in sweet potato harvesting. The plan includes a dinner menu inspired by the 1789 recipe book ‘Kansho Hyakuchin’, featuring dishes such as sweet potato tofu and sweet potato porridge. Guests can also take home their harvested potatoes.

In Ibaraki Prefecture, THE BOTANICAL RESORT Rinne is offering a limited-time ‘Sweet Potato Whole Experience Plan’ from October 5 to October 12, 2026. This food education initiative focuses on the ‘Beniharuka’ variety. The experience teaches participants about the maturation process: guests harvest their own potatoes to take home and age, while also enjoying pre-matured sweet potatoes roasted over a bonfire at the resort.
