Seasonal food and beverage launches in Japan
Overview
The Japanese food and hospitality sectors continue to introduce seasonal product lines and menus. Following Fujiya’s late August announcement of its “A Merry Halloween Party” collection, various providers have launched autumn-themed offerings featuring chestnut, sweet potato, fig, and Shine Muscat grapes. Recent developments include the announcement of ‘Yakiimo Fest OSAKA 2026’, scheduled for October 30 to November 8 at Osaka Castle Park, which will feature approximately 30 types of sweet potato dishes. Other seasonal updates include Shine Muscat fruit fairs at Coco’s and Michi-no-Eki Motegi, as well as Takano Fruit Parlor’s moon-themed parfaits starting September 19. In the dining sector, Kura Sushi is offering a ‘Moon Viewing Burger’ for the autumn season.
Newer culinary trends include ‘Ma La’ flavored items, such as Big Boy’s spicy sauce fair and Rinku-sha’s coriander Ma La tsukemen expansion. Regional offerings continue to expand, including grape-themed buffets at Royal Park Hotel Kyoto Umekoji, chestnut cakes at Toba International Hotel, and specialized afternoon tea menus such as Chun Shui Tang’s “Roasted Sweet Potato Afternoon Tea” starting September 15.
Recent additions to the seasonal landscape include Mos Burger’s fifth annual Tsukimi series, which features a Tsukimi Focaccia with a new golden cheese sauce alongside sweet potato-themed items like Satsuma Balls. Nakau is set to release Tsukimi-themed udon and soba dishes starting September 16, including a beef and soft-boiled egg Tsukimi Warm Egg Beef Tsukemen. Additionally, Patisserie Tooth Tooth has debuted an autumn tart collection using Shine Muscat, figs, chestnuts, and sweet potatoes, while Kokutoya in Hyogo Prefecture is offering a limited-edition reward bowl featuring smoked salmon collar, maitake mushrooms, and natural yam.
