Japanese lawmakers to visit China in diplomatic effort
A cross-party delegation of Japanese lawmakers is scheduled to visit Beijing from August 24 to 27, marking a significant semi-official diplomatic effort to manage tensions between Japan and China.
The delegation includes members from various political factions, such as Gaku Hashimoto of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party and Shinichi Isa of the opposition Centrist Reform Alliance. The group is expected to hold talks with high-level officials from the Communist Party of China’s diplomatic arm, including Liu Haixing, head of the International Liaison Department.
While the visit is seen as a step toward maintaining communication, experts suggest it may serve more as a crisis management tool rather than a definitive sign of a diplomatic thaw. Bilateral relations have remained strained following controversial remarks regarding Taiwan and subsequent diplomatic and economic countermeasures from China.
